Soybean oil, canola oil, corn, sunflower, peanut or other “vegetable” oils
I don’t normally dive deep into healthy foods, diets or what one should or shouldn’t eat, but this particular topic hit me hard.
Why? Because I was using these oils EVERY day and had no idea how bad they could be until I started doing some research and found some interesting and very ugly truths.
I know these have been marketed to all of us over the years by giant food companies as “healthy”, but if you understand a little biochemistry about how these highly-processed oils react inside your body, you would quickly see how false that is.
Many people perceive vegetable oils as healthy. I fell into that trap too cause I thought it says “vegetable” and vegetables are good for you, right? So vegetable oil must be too…
We were all trained that vegetable oils were good and butter was bad. But when we look at how they’re made, there’s a shocking difference. Butter is made using a simple process – separating cream from milk. I’ve tried this myself and there’s nothing complicated and all you need to do is skim off the cream and shake it until it becomes butter.
An unnatural process from the start.
Here’s what’s going on with oils… Vegetable oils are oils that have been extracted from various seeds. The most common include rapeseed (canola oil), soybean, corn, sunflower, safflower, peanut, etc. Unlike coconut oil or olive oil that can be extracted by pressing, these oils have to be extracted in very unnatural ways.
If we take a look at canola oil, it’s actually made from a hybrid version of the rapeseed (canola seeds don’t exist) that is most likely genetically modified and treated with pesticides. Rapeseeds are heated at unnaturally high temperatures, processed with a petroleum solvent to extract oils, then reheated and treated with some acid to remove wax solids and again treated with more chemicals to improve color and deodorize smell from the chemical processing.
Not a pretty picture already…
High levels of Omega-6 and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) mess up the fatty acid composition of the body’s cells
Though our body needs fat for rebuilding cells and hormone production and it is absolutely essential for the human body to get Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids from the diet, they must bein a certain balance, otherwise they do a lot more harm than good.
Vegetable oils contain very large amounts of biologically active fats called Omega-6 and polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are very harmful in excess. The polyunsaturated fats have undergone a lot of oxidation and are therefore VERY inflammatory inside your body, producing free radicals, damaging your cell membranes, contributing to faster aging, heart disease, and other possible health problems. Similarly, Omega-6 fatty acids oxidize easily. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce inflammation and protect against cancer. However, unbalanced levels of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats have been linked to many types of cancers and many other health problems. It’s about the ratio and imbalances.
These are just several facts about vegetable oils and they aren’t attractive and there’s so much more.
